About E&K Physio
Meet Emily
I began employment for the NHS in June 2016 as a Junior Physiotherapist in a musculoskeletal outpatient service within Dudley Group NHS Trust . I gained a promotion to Senior Physiotherapist in November 2017 and a further promotion to Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in September 2019 within the same service, of which I am still in the role. As part of this role, I am a specialist in the area of spinal and chronic pain, and I am also an operational team lead. In 2022 I was a finalist in the Committed to Excellence awards in the category of ‘Excellence in Patient Care’, for my work developing the Pain Management Programme and leading the physiotherapy service for chronic pain treatment. I was also nominated for Allied Health Professional of the Year in 2021.
With extensive NHS experience delivering high quality care to patients with musculoskeletal conditions, I am able to transfer this practice to the treatment of quadriped animals in order to restore normal movement patterns, function and quality of life. As a chronic pain specialist, I have unique insight into the medical and holistic management of long-term conditions such as osteoarthritis, which is a prevalent disease in both humans and animals
I am a keen horsewoman and have owned horses for the last 20 years, my current horse being a Thoroughbred called Phoenix. My passion is competing in dressage, but I have also competed in showing, showjumping and hunter trials. Alongside this I adopted an ex-racing Greyhound called Coco in 2019 and have become a volunteer for The Greyhound Trust. I have also trained in flyball with my Staffordshire Bull Terrier. To maintain fitness, I enjoy attending exercise classes at the gym as well as dog walks at various locations across the UK.
Meet Katie
I have 8 years experience working within the NHS. I graduated from Cardiff university in 2015 with my BSc physiotherapy degree and spent the first 2 years rotating as a Junior Physiotherapist around various departments including musculoskeletal (MSK) Outpatients, Trauma, Community, and Medicine, before specialising in MSK Outpatients. I have been a Senior Physiotherapist in MSK physiotherapy for the past 6 years. I treat acute and chronic injuries, spinal and peripheral joint pain, post-operative, trauma, orthopaedic, rheumatology, chronic pain, and fracture clinic patients.
I have vast experience working within a multi-disciplinary team, alongside consultants, general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapy assistants, hydrotherapy assistants, healthcare assistants and occupational therapists. My specialist knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and biomechanics alongside my extensive clinical reasoning and practical experience is largely transferable to animals. I am continuing with my NHS work alongside E&K Physio.
Outside of work I enjoy exercise, particularly netball and running with my 2-year old Hungarian Vizsla Scooby. I am part of an agility club, which I attend twice a week with my mom’s Cocker Spaniel Rodney and my own dog Scooby. My experience within agility, has given me great insight into the physical requirements, equipment, nature of training and competition demands. Emily started to teach me to ride in 2019, on her lovely Thoroughbred Phoenix and his feisty field companion Diamond, an Andalusian.
