How To Refer
Dogs and Small Animals
Dogs and small animals are typically referred for physiotherapy by a veterinarian, after appropriate investigations and diagnosis have taken place. This is in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeon’s Act 1966 and Exemptions Order 2015, which states that veterinary consent is obtained prior to physiotherapy.
If you have noticed any signs of pain, discomfort or altered behaviour in your dog, please seek veterinarian advice before considering physiotherapy.
In 2020, an update dictated that musculoskeletal maintenance for a healthy animal does not require veterinary consent, however any sign of underlying disease or pathology will be referred to a veterinarian and treatment ceased.
Providing your dog is healthy and registered with a veterinarian, physiotherapy would be able to take place without veterinary consent.
Please see the attached referral form, for you or your veterinarian to complete.
